Dr. Harminder Singh Sidhu pursued his B.Tech. Agril Engg (1989); M.Tech. Farm Power & Machinery (1992) and Ph.D. (2001) from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. He joined PAU as Assistant Engineer in 1992, promoted as Research Engineer in 2002 and later Senior Research Engineer in the year 2009. He served Borlaug Institute for South Asia (BISA) with CIMMYT as Principal Research Engineer for more than a decade. He has 30 years’ of national & international experience and this research work was mainly focused on the machinery related to conservation Agriculture (CA) and layering CA with precision water & nutrient management.

Dr. Sidhu made significant contributions in capacity development on conservation agriculture for a range of stakeholders in South Asia & beyond and organized/participated in more than 30 international workshops/trainings on CA machinery around the world during the last decade. Based on the research work, Dr. Sidhu has to his credit over 50 research publications and research recommendations which are included in ‘Package of Practices’ of PAU, out of which Laser land leveller, Happy seeder and Super SMS for combine harvester are adopted at large scale. He is pioneer in the country for developing conservation and regenerative agricultural technologies.

Dr. Sidhu was awarded John Dillon young scientist fellowship by Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) in 2006 and he has received a “Jyoti Award” & ISAE fellow from Indian Society of Agricultural Engineering (ISAE). He received G S Khush team award for “Excellence in transfer of technology to the farmers for the year 2018-19”. In 2019, The Honourable Governor of Punjab honoured him with team award Award for Development of an Outstanding Technology. He is also recipient of National Societal Innovation Award of the Year 2019, for innovation / invention “Super Straw Management System - An Innovative Mechanized Solution for In-situ Recycling of Rice Residue in Rice Wheat System of India” by National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) Govt. of India.

Dr. Sidhu is the Life member of Indian Society of Agricultural Engineering (ISAE), Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) and a member of International Conservation Agriculture Advisory Panel (ICAAP) for Africa since 2015.
